What You Need To Know

It’s a fact of life: At some point you’ll need medical care. Whether you’ve broken a bone, your kid has the flu, or you just need an annual checkup, Synopsys medical plans have you and your family covered.

Your Medical Plan Options

You have a choice of medical plans through UnitedHealthcare (UHC) and Kaiser Permanente, depending on where you live. Your cost per paycheck for medical coverage depends on which plan you choose and whether you cover any dependents.

All plans provide comprehensive coverage, including:

The Synopsys Health Savings (HS) Basic Plan

  • This has the lowest paycheck contributions of all the plans.
  • Highest deductible and out-of-pocket maximum. You’ll have less deducted from your paycheck, but you’ll pay more when you need care, because the full deductible must be met before the plan starts to pay.
  • You can use any provider. You can visit any doctor, specialist, lab, or pharmacy, but your out-of-pocket costs will be lower when your providers are in the UHC Choice Plus network. (MA, NH, and ME employees also have access to the Harvard Pilgrim network and CA employees have access to the CA Select Plus network.)
  • Paired with a tax-advantaged Health Savings Account to help you save on health care expenses, but Synopsys doesn’t contribute to your account.

The Synopsys Health Savings (HS) Standard Plan

  • Paycheck contributions are higher than the Synopsys HS Basic Plan but lower than the Synopsys HS Premium Plan.
  • Paired with a tax-advantaged Health Savings Account to help you save on health care expenses. Synopsys contributes to your account: $750 if you have employee-only coverage and $1,500 if you have employee + dependents coverage.

The Synopsys Health Savings (HS) Premium Plan

  • Paycheck contributions are the highest of the UHC plans, but the deductible is the lowest. This means that you’ll have more deducted from your paycheck, but you’ll pay less when you need care.
  • Paired with a tax-advantaged Health Savings Account to help you save on health care expenses. Synopsys contributes to your account: $1,000 if you have employee-only coverage and $2,000 if you have employee + dependents coverage.

Kaiser

  • This is only available in California and Oregon.
  • It has the lowest out-of-pocket maximum and no deductible.
  • You can only use in-network providers (except for emergencies).

Transparency in Coverage

In response to the federal Transparency in Coverage Rule, UHC has created machine-readable files that include negotiated service rates and out-of-network allowed amounts between the UHC health plans and the health care providers. This lets you see your health care providers’ pricing information before you use their services.
